Qualifications
Being friendly, welcoming, and gracious are critical volunteer qualifications. Volunteers must practice hospitality with people of all backgrounds, seeking to grow in understanding of those different from themselves.
We allow volunteers under the age of 18 only if supervised by an adult (e.g. youth group leader, parent)
Volunteers must be sober and able to prioritize the needs of others before their own needs.
Volunteers must agree to a basic criminal background check and complete a three-hour orientation in their first month of volunteering. One-time volunteers and volunteer groups are exempt from this requirement.
Description
Volunteers participate in areas where they are interested and as their schedules permit. Some of the opportunities are:
- Greet, welcome and interact with participants.
- Pick-up donated items from our retail partners using the Hospitality Center van or personal vehicle. Valid driver license and clean record required. Ability to lift 30 – 40 pounds.
- Kitchen help, will train! If you can’t stay the whole day we are happy to have you help cook, or come to serve or to clean-up after lunch.
- Plan an event – e.g. holiday parties, picnic, volunteer recognition, quarterly birthday party
Volunteer opportunities are also available for persons interested in participating in the clothing ministry distribution or for Laundry Love Racine.
Volunteers completing court ordered community service are welcome to complete a volunteer application.
Where do volunteers park?
Metered street parking is available. Also, metered parking is available at the McMynn parking structure, which is located directly across the street from St. Luke's.
